Short answer

Zencoder costs $40 per user per month for Pro, $85 for Pro Plus and $175 for Pro Max on annual billing ($45, $95 and $195 monthly), with 30,000, 80,000 or 180,000 credits per seat each month and paid top-ups from $20. Multi-repository indexing, SSO and audit logs start at Pro Plus, so a 10-developer team that needs cross-repo context pays about $850 a month. Teams that mainly need everyone to search and ask questions about their GitHub code can use CodeIndex for a flat $49 to $149 a month billed annually.

How much does Zencoder cost?

Zencoder costs $40 per user per month for Pro, $85 for Pro Plus and $175 for Pro Max on annual billing, or $45, $95 and $195 month to month. Enterprise is custom. Every paid seat comes with a monthly allowance of credits (30,000, 80,000 or 180,000), and once those run out you buy top-ups starting at $20. Those are the prices on zencoder.ai/pricing in October 2026.

If you have seen Zencoder listed at $19, $49, $119 and $250 a month on software directories, those tiers are out of date. The current lineup is Pro, Pro Plus and Pro Max, and the per-seat prices are higher than the old Starter and Core plans. Budget from the vendor page, not a cached listing.

Zencoder pricing plans compared

The three paid plans share the same agents, IDE plugins, Zenflow desktop app and frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google. What changes is the size of the credit allowance and a short list of team features.

The line that matters most for teams is multi-repository indexing. It is not on Pro. If your product is split across a frontend, an API and a few services in separate GitHub repos, and you want the agent to understand how they fit together, you are pricing Pro Plus at $85 a seat, not Pro at $40.

What Zencoder costs a team

Because every plan is per seat, the bill tracks headcount. These are annual-billing numbers before any credit top-ups.

Team sizePro per monthPro Plus per monthPro Plus per yearPro Max per month
5 developers$200$425$5,100$875
10 developers$400$850$10,200$1,750
20 developers$800$1,700$20,400$3,500
50 developers$2,000$4,250$51,000$8,750

A 10-person team that needs SSO and cross-repo context lands on Pro Plus at $850 a month, $10,200 a year. On monthly billing the same team pays $950 a month. Annual billing saves roughly 10 to 11 percent on every plan.

How Zencoder credits work

A credit is Zencoder's unit of consumption. Every model call costs a number of credits that depends on the model and how much work the call does, so a long agent run on a frontier model burns through the allowance far faster than a quick chat answer. A few rules from the pricing FAQ are worth knowing before you commit:

The practical effect is that the seat price is a floor, not a ceiling. Teams that lean on agents can add top-ups or API bills on top, so build a buffer into the budget for the first two or three months until you see real usage.

The trial is short: 7 days or 5,000 credits, whichever runs out first, and it includes Pro features only. You cannot test multi-repository indexing or SSO on the trial, which are the two Pro Plus features most teams are paying for.

Is Zencoder worth it if your team mainly needs codebase answers?

It depends on who is asking the questions. Zencoder is an AI coding agent. Its repo understanding exists to help agents write and change code, and it is priced per developer seat with metered credits. That is a good deal for engineers who want an agent writing tests, fixing bugs and opening pull requests every day.

It is an expensive way to answer "where do we handle refunds" or "what calls this endpoint" for the whole team. A QA lead, a support engineer or a product manager would each need a seat, and on Pro they would not even get multi-repo context. A shared codebase AI assistant covers that job for a flat fee. In CodeIndex anyone on the plan can search your GitHub repositories by meaning and get answers that cite file paths and line ranges. Pro covers 20 users and 50 repositories for $149 a month billed annually, or $1,788 a year, against $20,400 a year for 20 Zencoder Pro Plus seats.

The honest trade-off: CodeIndex does not write or edit code and has no agent mode. It finds and explains code, and it indexes GitHub only. Plenty of teams pair a per-seat agent for the developers who ship code all day with one shared tool for asking questions about the codebase.

And if the reason you looked at agents is a backlog of whole features nobody has time to build, pricing seats may be the wrong frame entirely. Some teams simply hire AI developers and autonomous agents by the project and keep their own seat count small.

How to keep Zencoder costs down

Frequently asked questions

How much does Zencoder cost per month?

Zencoder Pro is $45 per user per month on monthly billing and $40 on annual billing. Pro Plus is $95 or $85, and Pro Max is $195 or $175. Enterprise pricing is custom. Each plan includes a monthly credit allowance per seat, and extra credits are sold as top-ups from $20.

Is Zencoder free?

Zencoder offers a 7-day trial of Pro features that ends after 7 days or 5,000 credits, whichever comes first. For ongoing team use the paid plans start at $40 per user per month billed annually. The trial does not include Pro Plus features such as multi-repository indexing and SSO.

What is a Zencoder credit?

A credit is Zencoder's unit of usage. Every LLM call costs a number of credits based on the model and the work involved. Plan credits reset monthly and do not roll over, while purchased top-up credits stay available until used.

Which Zencoder plan includes multi-repository indexing?

Multi-repository indexing starts on Pro Plus at $85 per user per month billed annually. Pro does not include it. Enterprise includes unlimited multi-repository indexing along with private deployment and a dedicated customer success manager.

Does Zencoder support bring your own API key?

Yes. All plans support BYOK for OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini keys, and those calls do not use bundled credits. You still pay the Zencoder seat fee and you pay the model provider for the tokens.

What is a cheaper alternative to Zencoder for codebase questions?

If the goal is letting the whole team search and ask questions about private GitHub code rather than having an agent write it, CodeIndex charges a flat $49, $149 or $499 a month billed annually for the team, with answers that cite files and line ranges. It does not generate or edit code.
